Basic Documentation - Grade 12
At present, the datasets available for analysis under the Monitoring the Future Remote Access Service consist of the Grade 12
cross-sectional administrations for 1976 through 2007. There are six datasets for each year from 1976 through 1988 -- one for
each of the five forms and one "common core" dataset -- and seven datasets each year beginning with 1989, when a form was added
to the questionnaire set. The basic documentation for these datasets can be found on the
ICPSR/SAMHDA site. A user of the MTFRAS should go to
this site to obtain codebook information on the vast majority of the variables available through the MTFRAS. The ICPSR/SAMHDA
web pages contain relevant codebook documentation that can be downloaded or viewed on line.
Alternatively, for the 1976-2007 MTF Grade 12 core cross-sectional surveys, a user may choose to browse the codebook information
also available in SAMHDA's SDA MTF archive.
Supplementary Documentation - Grade 12
Documentation describing those MTFRAS variables that are now available for analysis but are not included in the ICPSR/SAMHDA
documentation is supplied below. These include actual weight and design variables, as well as other variables that are "bracketed"
or omitted from publicly-released MTF datasets. Simulated versions of all these variables are available for testing in the
test dataset section of this website.

Basic Documentation - Grades 8 and 10
At present, the datasets available for analysis under the Monitoring the Future Remote Access Service consist of the Grade 8 and Grade 10
cross-sectional administrations for 1991 through 2007. There are two datasets for each grade for each year from 1991 through 1996 -- one
for each of the two forms. There are four datasets (and questionnaire forms) for each grade in 1997 through 2007. The basic documentation
for these datasets can be found on the ICPSR/SAMHDA site.
A user of the MTFRAS should go to this site to obtain codebook information on the vast majority of the variables available through the MTFRAS.
The ICPSR/SAMHDA web pages contain relevant codebook documentation that can be downloaded or viewed on line.
Supplementary Documentation - Grades 8 and 10
Documentation describing those MTFRAS variables that are now available for analysis but are not included in the ICPSR/SAMHDA documentation
is supplied below. These include actual weight and design variables, as well as other variables that are "bracketed" or omitted from
publicly-released MTF datasets. Users may want to run a test analysis using the grade 8 test dataset, which includes simulated versions of
all variables described in the documentation below.
