Advancing the Science of Science in New York City and State

Funding will support IRIS professional staff and researchers to: provide all aspects of standard IRIS membership to NYU for one year, collaboratively design and develop an interactive data product (dashboard) with NYU research leadership, technical and data staff, designated researchers and government relations/communications representatives as well as representatives from other participating universities in New York City. The dashboard will build upon and expand existing IRIS data products and work done under the NSF-funded Industries of Ideas project to: (1) integrate new, collaboratively identified and prioritized, data fields provided by NYU with existing NYU UMETRICS data. New data fields to tentatively include but not be limited to (a) UMETRICS submission formatted internal/institutional research expenditures data, (b) information about administering departments of sponsored projects included in current NYU UMETRICS data and any new data submissions pertaining to the project, (c) data on the departmental affiliations of employees on institutional research expenditure accounts and sponsored project accounts submitted to IRIS, and (d) information (funder, submission dates, proposed amounts, abstracts, final disposition indicators of submitted proposals for a subset of identified NYU researchers to be collaboratively determined(2) descriptively analyze the resulting data; (2)work collaboratively with NYU representatives and other university participants to establish design requirements, develop and refine wireframes, and conduct initial user design activities for the dashboard (3)collaboratively design, implement and validate new domain specific measures of AI application and associated city level economic impact measures for potential inclusion in the dashboard (4)participate in 2-3 face to face and ongoing virtual product design and consultation meetings with project team members, university representatives and user groups (5)support and participate in identification of user and stakeholder groups for dashboard design consultation and outreach (6)produce an initial alpha dashboard version, collect and collate user feedback through face to face and virtual road show presentations, collaboratively develop revision and extension plans (7)produce a final beta dashboard suitable for public dissemination with associated documentation, code, and data standards necessary to enable replication and extension to other technology areas, universities or locales (8)contribute to the development of extension plans including but not limited to community outreach, project and product design (9)contribute to the development of follow-on/extension projects as appropriate (10)coordinate work with other Industries of Ideas and IRIS project activities and partners to realize valuable synergies
