The Future of Families and Child Wellbeing Study (FFCWS, formerly The Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing Study) is based on a sample of 4898 children born in 20 large U.S. cities between 1998 and 2000. The sampling strategy resulted in the inclusion of a large number of Black, Hispanic, and low-income families. Mothers were interviewed shortly after birth and fathers were interviewed at the hospital or by phone. Follow-up interviews have been conducted when children were approximately ages 1, 3, 5, 9, 15, and 22. The core study was originally designed to address questions about the conditions and capabilities of unmarried parents, especially fathers, and the wellbeing of children born into these families. SRO will conduct locating and will interview approximately 3000 young adults when they are 27 years old. Data collection will take place from October 2025 to August 2027. SRO will work with Princeton University to finalize the 45-60 minute survey instrument and will conduct web and telephone interviews and will implement in-person locating and interviewing as needed. SRO will also conduct locating and online and telephone interviews with the young adults mother and father.
