The New York City Housing and Vacancy Survey (NYCHVS) is conducted every three years and focuses on collecting detailed characteristics from the housing market. Rental vacancy data is the primary focus but additional data is collected such as characteristics on the Citys population, households, housing stock, and neighborhoods. SRO expects to sample approximately 15,000 housing units and will work with NYC Department of Housing Preservation & Development (HPD) to develop the sampling frame. SRO will use Blaise 5 to program the HVS instrument and will customize our sample management system to link to a web-based scheduling system, record the outcomes of all outreach and contact attempts with each sampled housing unit and integrate the survey instrument into multiple modes. The questionnaire will be programmed and administered in 6 languages in addition to English. We expect to complete 8400 interviews with residents of occupied units and 2250 interviews with informants on vacant units. SRO will provide final datasets with analysis weights, and imputation of key measures. SRO will facilitate archiving the NYCHVS data with ISR’s ICPSR.
