DNA Methylation as a Surrogate Biomarker for Early-Life Poverty

PSC and SRC Affiliates, Joshua Goode, Trey Smith, Jessica Faul, and Colter Mitchell will report on their findings regarding DNA Methylation as a Surrogate Biomarker for Early-Life Poverty at PAA 2025.

Their study explores how early life socioeconomic conditions shape biological processes resulting in markers that are still detectable decades later. This work offers new insights into the long-term health effects of childhood poverty. And provides a potential method for estimating exposure to childhood poverty in studies that were unable to assess it.
