Donna Jawad will extend her community liaison activities among Middle Eastern/Arab American communities living in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. Beyond organizing community health learning events, monthly Community Advisory Board meetings, an annual health reception and a semi-annual newsletter to the Middle Eastern/Arab American community, she will provide support services to these communities in collaboration with the Alzheimers Association. Specifically, Donna will hold monthly support group meetings aimed at reducing caregiver burden and increasing caregiver knowledge and efficacy. Further, she will work with community partners to recruit, screen, train, and support two (2) volunteer ambassadors to spread awareness in Middle Eastern/Arab American communities of resources and services. The support services and volunteer ambassador work will support MCCFADs efforts to become a resource to the Middle Eastern/Arab American and enhance our efforts to bring awareness of dementia and encourage research participation.
