The proposed study will use data from the Health and Retirement Study (HRS), linked to Medicare claims data, to address the following questions about cognition and Medicare spending among the elderly:
(1) Does better cognitive ability mean more or less Medicare spending?
(2) Does better cognitive ability lead to a different pattern of Medicare spending at the end of life?
