HRS -2009 NIA-SSA Interagency Agreement Budget Request

The purpose of this proposal is to obtain Social Security Administration support for HRS activities provided for by Interagency Agreement with NIA. These are to support the following activities (total costs figures shown):

1) Minority Sample expansion in the 2010 wave, including interview and other associated costs with the sample increase will be supported by $1,500,000;
2) $940,000 will be used for core HRS infrastructure needs in terms of personnel costs, data collection and linkage activities, and restricted data site inspections;
3) Data Monitoring Committee activities will be supported with $60,000;
4) Funding for the 2009 Consumption and Activities Mail Survey (CAMS) in the amount of $250,000;
5) $400,000 to increase the RAND subcontract on HRS in support of development, maintenance, technical support and dissemination of the RAND-HRS data, and begin a new project on wealth and assets measures;
6) $1,000,000 will be used for the in-person interviews;
7) $20,000 will be in support of the maintenance of the integrated Social Security earnings and benefits file;
8) $20,000 will be used for the maintenance of the weights to correct for potential bias in selected sub-samples of HRS respondents; and,
9) $45,000 will be used for the maintenance of imputations of earnings histories and benefits.
