Intergenerational Family Transfers of Time and Money in the PSID

The Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID) is the most widely used data source in the world to examine the intergenerational transmission of economic health and well-being. This project designs an innovative new Family Roster and Family Transfer Module, to be collected in the 2013 Wave of the PSID, and uses these data, along with the rich economic, health, and wealth data for individuals in the PSID, to analyze how families share resources of time, money, and housing (co-residence). We examine whether inter vivos transfers across generations buffer economic and health shocks, and explore the extent to which resources of the extended family influence family members? economic well-being over the life course.
