Carey Wexler Sherman comments on similarities between caring for family members with developmental disabilities & caring for those with dementia
In an article for The Bridge, Now what? A familiar fear when disabled children turn 26, Carey Wexler Sherman says that families who care for developmentally disabled children face similar stresses as those who care for family members with dementia, “'They are a risk for added depression, added anxiety. 'We also know that they are at risk for their own mental health because they don't tend to take care of themselves.”
