Miech & Monitoring the Future cited in New York Times on the growth of vaping among high school students
While some studies find that vaping is not likely to lead to smoking tobacco, the 2016 Monitoring the Future study found that 12th graders who vaped but had never smoked cigarettes were 4 times more likely to have taken up smoking a year later. Richard Miech pointed out that of the 11% of 12 graders who had vaped at all in the last 30 days, 24% did so daily.
