A Longitudinal Study of the Professional Accomplishments and Personal Lives of Early-career Scientists

The Job Seekers project conducts surveys that track the early career experiences of doctoral-level scientists, and provides longitudinal data about their career decisions and trajectories, family life, and migration patterns. The broad research topics about PhD economists that we wish to study using the data include: the impact of first jobs on career trajectories, gender disparities in academic career outcomes, family migration and fertility decisions, family stability and work-life balance among academics. In the longer-run, we hope to incorporate other fields into our data and analyses.
