‘This is not OK’: UMich research finds increased reports of forced intercourse in US during pandemic

The Michigan Daily reported on a study by Bill Axinn, Brady West, and Heather Schroeder, which found that the rate of forced intercourse rose significantly in the United Stated during the pandemic. The 2023 study was conducted through online and mail-in surveys instead of the in-person interviews in a previous 2017 study, which was beneficial during the pandemic. Brady West said,

“Nobody could do (face-to-face interviewing), the Institute of Social Research had to stop all of its operations. But given our plan, where we were going to mail people a letter — invite them to participate in this study — we were able to carry that out right in the height of the pandemic.”
