Richard Miech Comments on Vaping
In a letter to the New England Journal of Medicine, Richard Miech, Lloyd Johnston, Patrick O'Malley, Jerald Bachman, and Megan Patrick describe a rapid increase of vaping among adolescents in the 2018 Monitoring the Future study. Richard Miech says this increase translates to an additional 1.3 million teens who vaped in 2018.
Miech also commented on a new study which finds that e-cigarettes may be less toxic than cigarettes, but not when used in combination with traditional cigarettes. Miech says the new study “is very important. To my knowledge, this is one of the first toxicological studies based on population data and therefore one of the first that can be directly generalized to the US population.”
